Brookville Veterinary Hospital's Job Description for Associate Veterinarian
Persons to report to: Practice Manager, and Owner-Veterinarian.
Task Descriptions: As an Associate Veterinarian, your job entails several important aspects of our hospital; animal care and treatment, customer service, and hospital cleanliness.
Animal Care and Treatment Responsibilities –
Examination of dogs, cats and the occasional pocket pet. At Brookville Veterinary Hospital, our veterinarians complete a thorough 12-Body-System examination for all Diagnostic and Wellness visits. “We diagnose before we treat.” Doctor verbalizes the exam findings for the benefit of the client and for the technician to record notes for the medical record.
Evaluation of diagnostic tests including blood work, urinalysis, fecal, cytology, radiographs, and ultrasound.
*We do not expect all veterinarians to be experts in every area, but we do expect associates to be familiar with basic diagnostic tests and have a willingness to learn more..
Soft tissue surgery: In addition to spay and neuter surgeries we routinely want to be able to perform at this hospital: Cherry Eye Surgery, Cystotomy, Ear Hematoma, Entropion Repair, Enucleate eye, Mass/Tumor Removal, Abdominal Exploratory and Urethrostomy.
*An aptitude for learning new and improving current skills in these areas is expected.
Abide by the hospital’s standard of care and will discuss improvements and changes with practice manager and owner as needed.
Assist technician/assistant in ensuring the medical record is complete and accurate. This includes: history, exam, diagnostic findings, plan, recommendations and invoiced items.
Customer Service Responsibilities –
Provide exceptional customer service through maximizing exam/discussion time with client, edifying the team to the client, and trusting the team to communicate as much of the educational discussion with the client as possible. (The BVH system utilizes teamwork to see more patients resulting in higher pay.)
Clearly communicate exam findings during the exam, review differential diagnosis or diagnosis with client in order to properly discuss treatment options as well as prognosis.
Maintaining compassion, sympathy and professionalism during high-stress situations
Participate in customer-service meetings and promote the practice in the community.
Potential for “on-call” emergency rotation to better serve the community.
Hospital Cleanliness Responsibilities –
Assist with basic cleanliness of the hospital as needed.
