Come join our awesome shelter medicine team in Greenville South Carolina! We are looking for a shelter veterinarian who is passionate about animal welfare and community outreach. Greenville County Animal Care is an open intake municipal county shelter with an annual intake of about 9000 animals with 87% save rate. On staff are 68 people, including 6 full time and part time veterinarians and 16 veterinarian assistants.
The shelter is located just 10 minutes from downtown Greenville and Reedy Falls Park. It is also situated just 10 minutes from downtown Traveler’s Rest and an hour drive to Asheville NC. We are a progressive shelter that has implemented many new programs in the last 2 years to help create a no kill community. We have a community cat diversion program, free spay/neuter for any large breed dog and free TNR programs. Our spay/neuter clinic runs a wellness clinic designated for those on government assistance and we are starting a surrender prevention program that you will help to implement.
The veterinarian will split time in the shelter between foster appointments and surrender appointments. Great communication skills are a must. The veterinarian will also work with multiple departments helping the head shelter vet. New graduates and experienced veterinarians are encouraged to apply. Shelter medicine experience is desired but not required.
This is a part time job, usually hours will be Monday through Friday. There may be an occasional weekend shift. We are an eligible organization for the federal student loan forgiveness program.
Must be currently licensed in the State of South Carolina to practice veterinary medicine and qualified and eligible to obtain DEA license. Experience in the field of veterinary medicine, with high volume wellness clinic and shelter experience desirable. Knowledge of disease recognition in shelter setting required. Effective decision making and diagnostic skills as well as interest in pursuing treatment options with limited funding are desired qualities. Strong customer service, oral/written communication skills and interest in networking with other professionals are required. Candidate must be available to work Monday through Friday 12:00-5:00 with some flexibility to cover other veterinarian schedules as needed. Must have a valid SC drivers license.
