Coastal Valley Veterinary Services is looking to hire a part-time Veterinary Assistant or Certified Veterinary Technician for 3 to 4 days per week (no weekends). CVVS is a mobile mixed-animal single doctor practice based in Old Lyme, CT, that has been in business for ten years, covering Middlesex and New London Counties. The practice is split almost evenly between large and small animals, providing veterinary care to goats, dogs, cats, camelids, cattle, sheep, horses and pigs. We provide routine health care and many emergency needs and offer these services in the comfort of our patients’ own home environment. Most days begin at 9:30 am, and end by 4-6 pm or earlier although occasionally later hours are necessary (mostly in the summer). Some previous animal handling experience is necessary, and ability to handle fractious cats without hurting them, you, or the doctor is especially desirable! We keep all electronic records (currently utilizing Vetter practice management software), so proficiency with windows-based programs is helpful. Hourly wages commensurate with experience; vacation, paid holidays, pet discount, uniform allowance, and paid CE provided.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Ensure vet truck is properly equipped with supplies for the day’s appointments * Monitor inventory for ordering needs * Set up necessary equipment for each appointment; help ensure appointment goals are met in a timely manner (help to keep us on schedule); clean, organize, and return equipment properly after appointment is complete * Provide necessary and proper restraint for species * Take physical exam notes, transcribe veterinarian’s instructions to client in patient record, ensure invoices are complete and procedures/medications/supplies dispensed are properly filled and billed * Collect and properly record payments * Client communications: Send invoices & appointment/vaccine reminders, call with lab results, follow-up calls after sick visits, client education, etc. * Process lab work and/or prepare samples to send to outside lab; properly record results * Cleaning at the end of the day when necessary (truck, coveralls, boots, surgical tools) * Replenish supplies in truck as necessary
What we are looking for: friendly with a good work ethic, flexible and easy-going – a good sense of humor is a must! You can’t be afraid to get dirty, or to wriggle into tight spots to find a wayward patient (as in, cats under the bed). You must be able to lift moderate to heavy weights (up to 50 lb.) A large part of our practice involves hospice and home euthanasia, so compassion, empathy, and resilience are also very important. What we offer: care and compassion for our employees is just as important to us as the care we provide our clients and patients. We want you to grow in the veterinary profession and will do our best to help you achieve your goals. We want you to be a partner in the continued success of our practice! We are also willing to provide you with references of previous employees.
Additional Salary Information: Paid vacation/holidays/sick time
