Center for Animal Health is a well-established, full-service, small animal, veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, preventative, surgical, and dental care to the Wauwatosa, West Allis, and Milwaukee areas. We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local board specialists when special diagnostic procedures are required. Our facility includes laser therapy, in-house surgery suite, in-house digital x-ray capabilities, and a closely supervised hospitalization area. Summary: A veterinary technician must be able to provide leadership and training to the medical support staff in the operation of a small animal facility in accordance with hospital policy and procedures and provide medical care to patients as allowed in the veterinary practice act. The veterinary technician is the doctor’s primary medical support person. They begin the examination procedure and continue to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis and treatment phases. They aid the doctors in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with clients about their pet.
While under the supervision of the practice manager and veterinarian, a veterinary technician must be able to effectively and accurately perform the following duties that include but are not limited to: Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive.
Take part in jobs shadows or working interviews as necessary.
Take part in training as necessary.
Provide guidance to the support staff to assure that the shift flows well.
Provide patient care under the supervision and direction of a DVM.
Maintain excellent client communication.
Be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to: laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental and nursing skills.
Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar, terms and accurate information.
Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.
Provide client care for scheduling appointments, taking payments and checking in clients.
Answer the phones in a courteous and informative way.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Assist in all daily duties for clinic care.
Participate in any special cleaning duties.
Perform clinic upkeep as directed.
Perform equipment maintenance as directed.
Delegate additional cleaning duties as necessary during slow times in the absence of a supervisor.
Identify areas or items needing additional attention.
To perform this job successfully it will be necessary to become proficient in the use of the practice management software.
Other Skills and Abilities
Must have excellent communication, attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Ability to hear verbal instructions, client discourse and veterinary patients.
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of a coworker.
Endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods
Ability to be confident around pets.
Able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
Requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform duties while in a hospital environment.
Employee is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
Minimal travel required, possibly for vendor visits and associate education.
Work Environment — The work environment can and will include:
Loud noises and barking
Fume and airborne particle exposure
Fractious animals with the potential of both bites, scratches and potential disease exposure
Potential zoonotic disease exposure
Potential disease exposure to employee pets

Our ideal new team member will: - 1+ years of technician experience - Be knowledgeable on animal restraint - Have minimum of 3-6 months monitoring anesthesia - Have a minimum of 3-6 months as an exam room tech - Be able to draw blood from both Jugular and Cephalic - Be able to multi-task and pay attention to detail - Have a minimum of 3 months actively using Avimark - Full time availability ideal!
