Iconic and innovative, the SF SPCA offers you the opportunity to lead a team focused on day-to-day excellence with a vision to ensure that all California shelters have access to practical, evidence-based protocols by 2030.
About you: As a Veterinarian, you’ve chosen a career Shelter Medicine because of your devotion to improving the outcomes for homeless animals. You have practical experience and repeated success with population management and disease control. You are a highly skilled surgeon. You understand patient flow and pathways for shelter animals. You are smart, driven, and make your decisions by combining evidence based research with your eye on practical solutions and results. You understand what teams need to be successful. You are committed to the ongoing development of your team, the organization and yourself. You are a unique Veterinarian who recognizes your natural leadership qualities and has not only embraced them but wants to grow as a leader in animal welfare.
You are excited by the opportunity to work in an organization with over 45 Veterinarians who have an incredible range of expertise. The chance to work closely with 2 of the Nation’s top Boarded Behavior Veterinarians is exceptional. The opportunity to share your knowledge and further develop a Veterinary Internship in Shelter Medicine is a challenge you are ready for.
The Role: You will work closely with the entire Source to Home Team on continuing the innovations developed in Capacity for Care. You’ll lead medical and population rounds coordinating with Intake, Foster, Adoption, and Behavior, providing medical guidance and oversight. Working in conjunction with your teams, you’ll develop and/or fine-tune protocols. You’ll work closely with other department leaders on strategic and annual planning, budgeting, and developing success measures. You are responsible for the hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of your team members, ensuring they have professional development goals and increasing their engagement. We will count on you to ensure compliance with all laws regarding the practice of veterinary medicine and animal welfare.
