Cheri – Hill Kennel & Supply, Inc. is a small independent Contract Research Organization (CRO) focused on companion animal parasitology research for the development of safe and efficacious medicines for dogs and cats. We are a USDA registered facility located in central Michigan seeking an Attending Veterinarian.
The Attending Veterinarian is a position reporting directly to the facility manager. The Attending Veterinarian is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of policies and standards regarding the health care of all animals owned by Cheri-Hill Kennel and Supply, Inc. The Attending Veterinarian shall promote high standards of animal care in compliance with USDA Animal Welfare Act, and other applicable regulatory guidelines. These standards and practices will be reflected in facility Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) written and updated in concurrence with the facility manager and/or other facility officials. In addition, the Attending Veterinarian will provide veterinary services for animals enrolled in testing protocols and for animals in the resident population. The Attending Veterinarian will work closely with the facility manager and the laboratory and kennel manager to plan, coordinate, and implement trial activities according to the specific study protocols.
Performs and/or oversees regular clinical health observations of all animals.
Conducts various veterinary activities that are stipulated by protocol or by facility SOP’s such as physical examinations, administration of vaccinations, collection of biological samples (blood, feces, urine, tissue).
Euthanasia and necropsy of study animals.
Treatment of naturally occurring disease or injuries in animals.
Oversee the breeding program of the resident mdr -1 gene collie colony.
Ensure that facility practices and policies comply with applicable regulatory standards regarding animal care.
Serves as the Chairperson of the Institutional Animal Care and use Committee (IACUC).
Participate in IACUC facility inspections.
Serve as the role of Study Director or Clinical Investigator for studies.

Minimum education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent
Physical requirements: The job may require lifting of up to approximately 50 pounds, and must be able to move freely about in working with test animals, caging, equipment and facilities.
