Veterinarian, Sanford Research

Sanford Research invites applications for the position of Attending Veterinarian to support and oversee aspects of the AAALAC accredited animal care and use program at Sanford Research. Sanford Research is the non-profit research branch of Sanford Health and is located in Sioux Falls, SD.

Position overview

As Sanford Research’s Veterinarian, you will play a vital role in maintaining the highest veterinary standards achieved by our animal care and use program. In this part-time or full-time position, you will oversee all aspects of veterinary care and clinical support and collaborate with the Animal Resource Center and our Research teams in support of excellent animal care and research. Applicants will report to the institutional official, participate in IACUC meetings, ensure our program is compliant with all applicable regulations, participate in inspections by accreditation and Federal oversight entities, participate in semiannual program and facility inspections, review protocols, provide training, consult with investigators on in-vivo study design and participate in our post approval monitoring program. Full-time applicants with research interests that align with Sanford’s established interdisciplinary research program may also qualify for a faculty appointment at Sanford Research. Part-time applicants will be required to work onsite a minimum of 25 hours per week.

Qualifications

Applicants will hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education and licensed or the ability get licensed in South Dakota to practice veterinary medicine. Graduates of veterinary schools that are not AVMA accredited must have Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates certification from the AVMA. The successful candidate will have supervisory experience, strong leadership skills, and clinical proficiency with animals in a research setting. Preference given to candidates holding the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) board certification.
