Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is accepting applications for an Associate Dean for Graduate Education (ADGE). The ADGE provides strategic leadership and oversight for graduate education programs provided by Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Cummings School has committed to substantially increasing its PhD program cohort and its master’s programs. This position will be expected to lead the development of new programs to achieve these goals. The ADGE will be responsible for developing and managing an administrative structure that will serve as the academic home of graduate courses and graduate programs. Responsibilities will include developing the strategic direction of graduate education as well as ongoing oversight and management of PhD, master’s, and certificate programs, in collaboration with program directors and faculty. In addition, the ADGE will ensure policies and procedures are in place to support all graduate education programs, which includes ensuring academic rigor. The ADGE will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and will be expected to work closely with the Associate Dean for Research and the Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Climate.
Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Ensuring excellence in graduate education, including postgraduate certificates and the graduate degree portion of dual degree programs.
Development and oversight of graduate education courses and programs.
Supporting recruitment of graduate students for all graduate programs.
Development and oversight of criteria and processes for admissions to graduate programs.
Development and oversight of graduate education policies that align with relevant school and university policies.
The successful candidate will be expected to devote a minimum of 26 weeks per year to ADGE activities. Time allocated for research and/or other scholarly activity will depend on the individual, but will include consideration of their level of external funding support. Five weeks are available for vacation and other time off. The exact distribution of activities, within the guidelines of the school, will be based on the interests and expertise of the successful candidate. This position is eligible for appointment with continuous term (tenure-equivalent).
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD and have previously served at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The successful candidate will have demonstrated administrative skills required to effectively develop and implement policies and procedures. Previous experience in both teaching and research at the graduate level is required. Excellent communication skills and a reputation for collegiality are required. Prior experience with graduate program administration and/or development of new graduate programs is preferred.

Cummings School is situated in Grafton, MA on a 600-acre semi-rural campus, forty-five miles west of Boston and next door to Worcester, the second largest city in New England. There is a regional rail service stop adjacent to campus and easy access to cultural and sporting events. The campus is a short drive from beautiful beaches, mountains, and other unique features of New England. The area is a hub of biotechnology and higher education.
